It is located 18 kilometers from the city of Lobos and 5 kilometers from Villa Loguercio (Laguna de Lobos). Salvador María is a small town that offers all necessary services and features a central boulevard lined with large trees and palm trees, giving it a distinctive look and a certain charm. The volunteer fire station, the social and sports club, and the local cooperative represent the hub of community life; every year, they organize the town festival, which includes a festive parade in which virtually the entire population participates. The boulevard that characterizes Salvador María begins just past the old train station; the paved road winds back and forth for six blocks, leading to the town’s small church, which is open only a few days a week. Also, right at the entrance to the town, a small stream crosses the road, flowing into an adjacent wetland that feeds into the nearby Lobos Lagoon. Salvador María has half a dozen businesses offering groceries and services, including a few stores, a veterinary clinic, two internet cafes, two bars, an ice cream shop, and several repair shops for agricultural machinery, mills, and automobiles. Over the past two years, the carnival parades have been revived—a tradition the residents are determined not to let fade away.
